Q. What courses are available to study through the School of Indigenous Australian Studies (SIAS)?
A. The School of Indigenous Australian Studies (SIAS) offers such courses as the Tertiary Access Courses, Indigenous Studies at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and media and communication studies.
SIAS also conducts a growing number of community-based education and training programs.
Q. What type of student support services are available at SIAS for Indigenous students from throughout the university community?
A. The ITAS Co-ordinator is based at SIAS, and arranges for qualified tutors to assist Indigenous students with their tertiary studies.
SIAS has a computer room fully equipped with up-to-date computers, printer, and photocopying machine for use by the students. There is an air-conditioned common room with kitchenette, microwave oven, softdrink machine, and separate study area. Toilet facilities and a cold water drink fountain are also available and handy to the covered courtyard area.
Q. Can I do postgraduate studies if I do not have an undergraduate degree?
A. No. Only in exceptional circumstances, where a person has extensive publications, will a person be considered for postgrad studies without a formal undergraduate qualification. This has to be approved by the Head of School.
Q. Can non-Indigenous students do SIAS subjects/courses?
A. Yes, they can.
